• 10/11/2004
  • I finally have a webpage up. Bear with me as I just learned html today. If you have any suggestions for the site, feel free to email me (eking@math.tamu.edu).
  • Also, I am accepting suggestions for what types of candy I should give out after the next exam. Please write your requests on the top of your next homework assignment (do not email me concerning the candy). Thanks, and I hope to see all of you this week.

  • When answering questions on the quiz, please be sure that you follow directions. If the problem asks for something in a certain form, you must enter it in that form. If Dr. Scarborough tells you in class that only certain answers are acceptable, listen to her instructions. She has also included proper definitions in her course notes. A number of people fared poorly on the quiz this week because they did not fully read the instructions.
  • Please note that the homework over 5.1 - 5.4 is due in lecture, Monday, October 25.

  • This Monday, October 18, there will be a Math Club meeting.
• 10/19/2004
  • If the computer tells you that an answer is wrong that you think you got right, you should carefully reread the instructions. Do not hastilly try another answer. There is a possibility that you worked the problem correctly, but you typed the answer in the wrong format. If you are ever unsure of how the directions are instructing you to format your answer, please ask me. Once you have entered in 2 incorrect answers, there is nothing that I can do to help you.

  • I am posting the homework solutions early so that you can use them to study. They will be up tonight. Good luck studying, and I will see you in class this week (with an even wider range of post-exam candy options!).

  • If there is enough leftover candy from the exams, I will start rewarding sections for turning in homeowork. If an entire section turns in the homework assignment on time, they will get candy the next week.
  • If you are unsure about which formulas should be memorized for an exam, ask Dr. Scarborough.
• 11/15/2004
  • When working problems with numerous steps that use previously calculated values, make sure that you do not use rounded numbers. Either use exact values or the long decimal read out from your calculator. Your calculator has memory to store numbers; you should make use of that. Using a rounded value can cause a large amount of error.
  • The section that has the highest homework median, starting with 6.5 - 7.4 will recieve special baked treats from me.

Homework

• You may turn in late homework before your next recitation either to Dr. Scarborough or to me. Ten points will be deducted.
• You may use the back of papers from the recycle bin for homework turned in to me.
• Please do your problems in order.
• Grading
  • 30 pts: name, section number, title, staple
  • 40 pts: completion
  • 15 pts each: two problems graded on accuracy
• Consider completing your assignments during help sessions, so that you may ask questions whenever you need help.


• You will need Adobe Reader to read some of the solution files.
• I am learning a new software package to make the write ups look nice.

Exams

• Make sure and check your NEO account the week prior to the exam so that you can find out when and where the "Night Before Drill" will be held.
• Don't forget to do the Week in Reviews; they are exteremely beneficial.
• Remember to bring your student ID. This is very important.
