  Calculus, by Ellis and Gulick, 6th edition
 

DESCRIPTION: An introduction to multivariable calculus. We will cover most material from chapters 11-15 of the text. Homework problems from the text will be assigned and discussed in class, but not collected for a grade. There will be at least 12 quizzes during the semester. No makeup quizzes will be given, but only the 10 highest quiz scores will be used in computing the quiz grade. There will be 4 Matlab assignments during the semester. Students are not assumed to have prior knowledge of Matlab.   

PREREQUISITES:   MATH 141

Final Exam - Saturday, May 12, 1:30-3:30 pm, normal classroom, MATH 0101.   
Good sample finals are final exams for Math 241 from Spring 2006 and Fall 2006 on testbank.

Alternate Final Exam (only for students with advance permission)   Sunday, May 13, 1:30-3:30 pm, in ARM 0135.   For the alternate final you must bring your student ID.   Come early as checking ID's of all students takes some time.

Assignment 1 due Friday, March 2.  Matlab 1.

Assignment 3 due Friday, April 6. Matlab 3. 

Assignment 4 due Friday, April 20. Matlab 4. 

Grading: Grades will be based on scores for 4 one-hour exams, Matlab assignments, quizzes, and a 2-hour final exam. The point totals are:

Hour Exams 400

Final 200


Total 740

 

Makeup exams will only be given for legitimate, documented absences. Besides my office hours, there will be tutoring hours for Math 241. Tutoring is by graduate students who are TA's for large lectures of Math 241, and any students taking Math 241 are allowed to come in for help. The schedule is available on line at tutoring schedule .  

COMPUTER LABS: The Mathematics Department maintains a computer lab for use by undergraduates in Room 0203 of the Math Building. It is open M-F from 9am-6pm.
