Stat 430 Readings & Scripts/Logs to Do, Spring 2009


Week of January 26-30, 2009:
       (1). Read Cody & Smith Chapter 1 and Chapter 12 Sections A,B,E.
       (2). Work through the "DatEntry" script for practice, located in www.math.umd.edu/~evs/s430/Scripts/DatEntry.Log.
       (3). Work through the "LEC2Log" SAS session summary, located in www.math.umd.edu/~evs/s430/NewLogs/LEC2log.F08.

Week of February 2-6, 2009:
       (1). Read sections 2.A-2.C of Cody & Smith, along with definitions of the basic descriptive statistics (sample moments,
sample quantiles, and `empirical distribution function') in whatever introductory statistics book you learned from.
       (2). Work through the "DescrStat" script, located in www.math.umd.edu/~evs/s430/Scripts/DescrStat.Log.

Week of February 9-13, 2009:
       (1). Read the rest of Chapter 2 of Cody & Smith, along with the handouts on Plotting in SAS,
Empirical Distribution Functions, and Scaled Relative Frequency Histograms.
       (2). Work through the "GraphScr1.Log" and "GraphScr2.Log" scripts, located in www.math.umd.edu/~evs/s430/Scripts/.

Week of February 16-20, 2009:
       (1). Read Chapter 3, Sections A-I, N, O.
       (2). Work through the LEC9log.F08 Log and FreqExmp.Log and Freq2.Log Scripts.

Week of February 23-27, 2009:
       (1). Finish Chapter 3, including 3.Q and Log S09LECLOG.2 (in "NewLogs") and Script MHexamp09.Log.
       (2). More practice on plots with GraphScr1.Log and GraphScr2.Log Scripts.
       (3). Material on Formats in printing and frequency tabulation: Ch.3 sections plus Format.Log Script.

Week of March 2-6, 2009:
       (1). Read Chapter 6 (Sec A, B, E, F) on T-tests and work through TTest.Log Script.
       (2). Chapter 5 Sections A-E on correlations and partial correlations, plus Scripts Corr.Log and tempCorr.

Week of March 9-13, 2009:
       (1). Read the rest of Chapter 5.
       (2). Work through the Scripts Corr.Log and tempCorr and the log LEC17log.F08 in "NewLogs".

Week of March 23-27, 2009:
       (1). Read about random-number functions in SAS and programming with arrays. (Ch.15, also Ch 17.C).
       (2). Work through the Log NewLogs/LEC17log.F08 and the worksheet Handouts/PartialCorr.pdf.

Week of March 30-April 3, 2009:
       (1). Test and test corrections. Reading repeats readings from previous week: Partial Correlation
Handout and worksheet plus Ch,15 and 17C material on random numbers and arrays.
       (2). Work through Log on Match-Merge.
       (3). Work through script on on simulated regression data and outlier-detection plots.

April 6-10, 2009:
       (1). Simple Linear regression "theory" handout.       
       (2). Work though script on Prediction Intervals.
       (3). Read Chapter 9 Sections A-E.

April 13-17, 2009:
       (1). Continue with Chapter 9. (Review multiple regression from Math Stat. text, Stat 401 or other.)
       (2). Work through script Scripts/PlotRsds.txt.

April 20-24, 2009:
       (1). Read Chapter 7 on ANOVA and work through MultReg Scripts.
       (2). Continue reading Chapter 9 including Dummy variable topic.

April 27-May 1, 2009:
       (1). Continue with Chapter 7.
       (2). Review material on arrays, related to dummy variables and simulation.
